Disney Cruise Line is seeking to base a ship year-round in Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades, according to documentation from a June 15 meeting of the Broward County Commission.

The board of county commissioners unanimously approved a motion to authorize the county administrator to execute a terminal and berth agreement between Broward County and Disney Cruise Line.

A Disney Cruise Line spokeswoman confirmed on Wednesday that Disney is “in discussions with Port Everglades.”

Disney Cruise Line sought authorization to negotiate a berth deal in an April 26 letter to Port Everglades Authority CEO Jonathan Daniels. The letter was penned by Jose I. Fernandez, Disney Cruise Line’s vice president of port strategy, development and operations.

Fernandez noted that Disney is adding three new ships through 2025 (starting with the Disney Wish next summer), and that the company intends to homeport a 3,500-passenger ship in South Florida year-round. The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are 3,500-passenger ships, as are the new vessels that are being built.
