The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando will begin celebrating its 50th anniversary on Oct. 1 with the “World’s Most Magical Celebration,” 50 years to the day that the property opened for the first time in 1971.
Cinderella Castle will receive new, golden embellishments, gold bunting and more, including a 50th anniversary crest.
The celebration will last 18 months, featuring new experiences throughout the resort.
Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom Park will receive new, golden embellishments, gold bunting and more, including a 50th anniversary crest.
Each of the resort’s four theme parks’ icons — Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom, the Hollywood Tower Hotel at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Spaceship Earth at Epcot and the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park — will turn into “Beacons of Magic” in the evening with a special glow that Disney is calling “EARidescent.”
Iconic structures at all four parks, including the Holiday Tower Hotel at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, will turn into “Beacons of Magic” in the evening with special iridescent touches.
Hosting the festivities will be Mickey and Minnie Mouse, who will each get sparkly new looks created for the occasion. The iridescent fabric of their outfits will feature embroidered versions of Cinderella Castle, fireworks and pops of gold.
More details about the celebration are forthcoming.
