Dream Vacations on Monday will launch its 10th annual Operation Vetrepreneur: Become Your Own General contest, inviting military veterans to enter for a shot at a free travel agency franchise.
Veterans of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard are invited to complete an online entry form and conduct an introductory phone interview with a franchise development manager. Then, they must submit a profile on themselves, a business plan and a video. Follow-up phone calls will be conducted with finalists. The contest runs through Aug. 6.
To date, Dream Vacations has given away 51 free franchises, valued at $637,800.
Five franchises will be awarded. To recognize the contest’s 10th anniversary, a grand prize winner will also get a cabin on a Danube River cruise.
Each franchise is valued at $12,300. It includes the franchise and a waived initial start-up fee and monthly service fees. Winners will be notified in August.

“Supporting military families is important to Dream Vacations and it is hard to believe we have been giving away franchise business opportunities for 10 years to military veterans as a small token of our appreciation,” Drew Daly, senior vice president and general manager of Dream Vacations, said in a statement.
Dream Vacations is also offering a 30% franchise discount to interested military veterans and Gold Star families. They can also select one of two perks: Waived administrative fees or a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet. Dream Vacations offers veteran-specific training and marketing assets. In addition, all veterans and Gold Star families will get a waived training fee for a business partner, and the ability to hire active-duty military spouses and veterans as associates as a discount.
