Meet Clarene Mitchell, a branding activist and LinkedIn savant, who has been recently included in Marquis Who’s Who. In 2017, she established her business, TCM Communications LLC, after nearly a year of unemployment, and decided to utilize her many years of experience in journalism and public relations as a consultant in order to take her professional future into her own hands.
Like all individuals profiled in Marquis Who’s Who, she was selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Inspired by A.G. Gaston’s philosophy of recognizing and fulfilling the needs of the people, Mitchell shifted her attention towards the impact of LinkedIn on prospective employees and employers through training, coaching, and speaking engagements. Utilizing her firsthand knowledge, she remains steadfast in her passion for advancing brands through the top-ranking social media platform for professional and business purposes.
In her current position, Mitchell empowers her clients to #ShineOnline through compelling LinkedIn presentations, trainings, one-on-one coaching sessions, and LinkedIn profile audits, services that have since gone entirely virtual in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, she adjusted her business model to reflect her status as a “LinkedIn Results Ignitor” due to her expertise in helping her clients garner exceptional results on the platform. Prior to the pandemic, her speaking engagements included sold out crowds in Milwaukee, New Orleans, Omaha, and Detroit. She was featured on “Our Issues Milwaukee,” a WVTV CW18 public affairs show, in August 2020 to provide her insights on how business owners and job seekers can fully utilize LinkedIn to help their businesses or to find a job.
Mitchell’s impressive LinkedIn prowess is also extended to her being the host of her own LinkedIn Live program, “Imposter Syndrome Disrupted” The series, which is broadcasted on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. EST on her LinkedIn profile, notably spotlights women entrepreneurs and the struggle to overcome imposter syndrome, which can frequently impede forward momentum in business.
Mitchell attributes her success to her ability to empowering her clients to boldly tell their stories via LinkedIn, applying her incredible background in communications and her own personal experience with the platform to each of their individual circumstances and profiles. She additionally offers her unique perspectives and advice to up-and-coming entrepreneurs and LinkedIn users overall through her ‘Shine Online Bulletin,’ a LinkedIn newsletter that she publishes twice a month. One of more popular articles was, “3 Tricks That Don’t Boost LinkedIn Engagement.” In January 2021, LinkedIn recognized Mitchell’s newsletter as a Top Pick for users to learn how to enhance their networks and online visibility.
Prior to cementing herself as an entrepreneur in branding and professional exposure, Mitchell found success as a freelance print journalist between 1990 and 2017, during which time she conducted interviews and penned articles for such media outlets as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee Community Journal, Toledo Journal, Naturally Moi and the Electronic Urban Report, to name only a few. As her online reputation grew within her specialty shortly thereafter, she was sought out to write a feature article in the summer 2017 issue of A Women’s Thing, a New York City magazine. Additionally, Mitchell was recruited as a community affairs contributor for the “In the Know” Radio Magazine Show, in which she reported on current news topics on-air for Radio-Free Nashville between 2018 and 2019.
During the earliest stages of her professional journey, she pursued an education at Cardinal Stritch University, from which she obtained a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal communications in 1993.
Beginning her career by developing and facilitating health-focused educational programs for the Milwaukee Urban League from 1993 to 1995, Mitchell continued to support her community as a community organizer for the Lisbon Avenue Neighborhood Development, a program coordinator for the American Lung Association and a project coordinator for the Sojourner Truth House. During her time with the latter institution, she is proud to have established the Belle Resource Center for Battered Women and administered a self-sufficiency and job readiness program.
Mitchell subsequently served as a work experience specialist and facilitator for the Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin from 1998 to 2000 before contributing to the City of Milwaukee as an executive staff member in the Office of the Mayor, after which she found further success as the first health communications officer for the City of Milwaukee Health Department until 2001. During this time, she refined her skills in the area of public relations, which led her to flourish with a long tenure as a program coordinator and public relations specialist for the Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin. Before launching her business, she worked for several other organizations, helping to advance important issues. Mrs. Mitchell grew a reputation for being a timely and accurate source for information.
Mitchell’s education attainment includes her successfully completing Cardinal Stritch University’s African American Leadership Program (AALP) in 2016. AALP is a nine-month intensive leadership development program. The program requirements included a competitive community service project, her team won the competition. In 2020, she earned a “Women’s Entrepreneurship” certificate from Bank of America Institute for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Cornell University.
Among the many highlights of her career, Mitchell fondly recalls writing and self-publishing her book, Shine Online with LinkedIn, in 2019. The book provides readers greater insight on how to leverage LinkedIn for professional and business success. She is proud of her transition from championing important community issues to championing brands. Her clients have noted how she changes the trajectory of lives and businesses, one LinkedIn profile at a time.
