Royal Caribbean International’s Odyssey of the Seas arrived at its Port Everglades homeport in advance of its first cruise on July 3.

The line’s newest ship will be the first of Royal’s Quantum Ultra Class vessels to sail in the U.S. when it launches a summer season of 6- and 8-day Caribbean cruises through April 2022.

The ship’s path to its Fort Lauderdale base has been circuitous. Delivered in late March, the ship was originally going to arrive in the U.S. in November 2020 to launch Caribbean cruises from Port Everglades before spending the summer in Italy doing Mediterranean sailings.

Completed while cruising was still banned in the U.S., Royal Caribbean redeployed the ship to Israel, where it was to launch on June 2 as the first major cruise ship to homeport in that country.

Amid regional unrest in May, the cruise line canceled the Odyssey’s Israel cruises and redeployed the vessel back to Port Everglades, as prospects markedly improved for cruising from the U.S. in July.

The Odyssey’s inaugural July 3 cruise opened for sale last week and has already sold out, Royal Caribbean said.
