ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — With many employers in the Roanoke Valley still having problems finding workers, the Roanoke Small Business Development Center is looking to help.

The center held a webinar this week aimed at helping recruit and retain workers in a post-pandemic environment.

One of the panelists stresses the importance of networking, like reaching out to past employees and alumni organizations, as well as social media.

He also advises employers to think twice when it comes to lengthy job applications.

“Make your application process more candidate friendly,” recommended Alec Siegel with Siegel Search LLC. “Sometimes you’ll run an ad and have them complete this questionnaire and halfway through it, the candidate goes, ‘oh it’s not worth it, I’m not going to apply.’”

Recruiters also say, because of the expense of training new employees, it’s important to know who your top performing employees are and to keep them happy, whether through bonuses, benefits, or making accommodations to work remotely.
